My Story

Ang (Angie) founded Hills Athletic Fencing Club in 2016, capitalising on her skills in fencing training and health science.  For the last 8 years, she has used her extensive understanding of fencing theory to create a fencing curriculum that focuses on skill development, physical strength, agility, coordination and competition.

Angie travelled to the US and trained under the renowned American Fencing Master, Rob Handelmen, the president of the US Fencing Coach Association, at San Francisco's Halberstadt Fencers' Club, the oldest club with a rich legacy of producing champions.  Angie has earned the Prévôt d’ Sabre Level 4 coaching qualification from the US Fencing Coach Association.  She also holds an international Moniteur D’Armes certification (Level 3 in three weapons) from the esteemed AAI - Académie d’Armes Internationale.

As a veteran fencer, Angie competes both nationally and internationally. Her journey is enriched by invaluable lessons from different fencing Maestros of diverse backgrounds. Angie's involvement isn't just confined to competition; she's fervently dedicated to teaching and has played a pivotal role in introducing the U.S. fencing training program to Australia.

Angie's expertise is diverse. She holds a Master's degree of Rehabilitation Counselling from the University of Sydney, along with certificates III and IV in Fitness. This endows her with an in-depth understanding of rehabilitation, injury prevention, mental health, strength, and conditioning, enabling her to guide students toward their aspirations.

Angie doesn't just provide holistic fencing coaching; she also offers fencing as therapy for children with autism. This innovative approach addresses the unique challenges these children face. The one-on-one nature of the sport facilitates personalised interaction, bolstering social and motor skills. Angie's unwavering commitment is to unlock the full potential of each student she mentors.

Her coaching results include the following:

U8 Silver medal at NSW State Championship

U8 Silver medal at Internation Australian Mini Koala Challenge

U14 Bronze medal at NSW State Championship

U14 Bronze medal at the International Australian Mini Koala Challenge

Her personal competition results:
